Alienware unveils 39-inch 5K OLED monitor with 330Hz refresh rate

If you have ever tried to read small text on a fancy OLED gaming monitor, you know the struggle. Words can look a little blurry or have weird colors around the edges. That is fine for movies and video games, but it is a real headache if you want to write an email or edit a document.

Alienware thinks it has finally cracked the code. At the Computex tech show, the company showed off a new 39-inch screen called the AW3926QW. They say it is the best display they have ever built.

The secret is a new type of screen made by LG. It is the first 39-inch monitor with a 5K resolution and an OLED panel that uses an RGB stripe layout. This special layout stops the color fringing on text, so you get the amazing contrast and rich colors of OLED without the fuzzy words. That means you can use this screen for work during the day and for gaming at night without any problems.

The numbers on this screen are very good. It can get as bright as 1,300 nits. The refresh rate can go up to 330Hz. You can also switch between two modes. One mode gives you full 5K detail at 5,120 by 2,160 pixels with a 165Hz refresh rate. The other mode drops the resolution to 1080p but pushes the refresh rate to 330Hz.

The Alienware AW3926QW monitor has a gentle curve of 1500R, so it is not too aggressive. It comes with Dolby Atmos sound support and a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 rating. There is also a built-in KVM switch. That lets you control two computers with one keyboard and mouse. The USB-C port can charge your laptop with up to 90 watts of power. You get both DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 FRL with eARC. The monitor works with NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. And like earlier Alienware OLED models, you get a three-year warranty that covers burn-in damage.

Alienware has not revealed the price of AW3926QW yet. But it’s expected to be more than $1,000 (~Php61,000).

Alienware also showed a 34-inch model called the AW3426DW. This is an update to a monitor from 2022. The new version is brighter at 1,300 nits, up from 1,000 nits. It has a new coating that cuts down on reflections. It also has a 280Hz refresh rate, which is a bit faster than the old 240Hz. This one is coming in July. No price yet either.

Not everyone has a pile of cash to spend. So Alienware is also releasing two budget-friendly monitors as well.

The first is a 32-inch model for $300. It has a standard 16:9 shape and a QHD resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels. The second is a 34-inch ultra-wide model for $400. It has a resolution of 3,440 by 1,440 pixels. Both run at 240Hz and support AMD FreeSync and have DisplayHDR 400 certification.
