Speaking during her guest appearance on “i-Listen with Kara David,” Matet explained that what people have been calling a “rift” is, in reality, only a minor misunderstanding among siblings.

“Actually hindi nga siya, alitan ba ‘yon? Parang misunderstanding. Medyo hindi lang nagkakaintindihan nang slight,” Matet said.

She also emphasized that there is no sense of hierarchy within their family, stressing that their mother treated all of them equally.

“Pare-parehas ang trato sa amin ni mommy eh. Pare-parehas lang kami. Magkakapatid,” she added.

Matet also reacted to recurring online discussions questioning the family dynamics of Nora Aunor’s children, particularly the narratives being revived on social media.

“Alam niyo, Ms. Kara, tao lang ho ang gumagawa niyan. Tao lang ang nag-speculate. Tao lang ang nagkukulit. Actually kaya din ako nagagalit dahil napaka pakialamero,” she said.

She further clarified that among the siblings, she is often the one who speaks out and defends the family from criticism, contrary to how she is sometimes perceived online.

“Ang sabi nila si Matet, putak nang putak kung ano-ano sinasabi. Sa limang magkakapatid, siya lang ang maingay, ako ang tagapagtanggol ng mga kapatid ko,” Matet said.

She even shared a light remark about her older sister’s communication style, saying she often has to interpret or explain things to others.

“Ang ate ko, napakasosyal. Statement in English. ‘Ate, paano maiintindihan ‘yan? Naka-English ka na naman.’ So ako, magtatanggol sa kanila.”

Matet added that she is willing to take the criticism directed at her if it means protecting her siblings from public scrutiny.

“Ako papatol, akin ang kahihiyan, akin ang away, sa akin na. Pero mga kapatid ko, ipagtatanggol ko ‘yan,” she said.

She also expressed that she believes their late mother would not have wanted any conflict among them.

“Ayaw niya. Ayaw talaga niya. Gusto niya magkakasundo,” Matet shared.

Despite past rumors, Matet reiterated that there is no real feud between her and her siblings, including Ian de Leon, stressing that what people see online does not reflect their actual relationships.

Matet de Leon is a veteran Filipino actress who rose to fame as one of the country’s most prominent child stars during the late 1980s. As the adopted daughter of screen legends Nora Aunor and Christopher de Leon, she has since built a lasting career as a versatile adult actress, frequently dubbed the industry’s ultimate “Best Friend” for her memorable supporting roles.

In another report, Matet de Leon looked back on the moments when Nora Aunor would make time for her children despite her packed and demanding schedule. She described her late mother as a mix of humor and strict discipline, especially during her younger years. Matet shared that Nora would often plan special and exclusive family experiences to compensate for the time she had to spend working.
