Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan has been issued a medical clearance and is ready to be transferred to the Sandiganbayan, the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) said Tuesday.
At a press briefing, PNPGH chief Police Colonel Cleto Manongas said Bonoan is now stabilized following treatment and monitoring.
“Actually po, nandoon na po yung medical clearance sa director namin…Ni-ready na po namin si former Secretary Bonoan, he can be transferred po,” Cleto said.
(Actually, our director already obtained the medical clearance…We prepared former Secretary Bonoan, he can be transferred.)
According to Manongas, Bonoan was brought to the hospital on Monday after complaining of head heaviness and elevated blood pressure following his surrender to authorities at Camp Crame.
The former Cabinet official initially registered a blood pressure reading of 170/100 upon assessment by hospital doctors.
“As of now, the former secretary is stable. No symptoms and the BP is 120/70.”
Bonoan voluntarily appeared before the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) office after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant in connection with the P573‑million plunder and graft charges.
In a resolution dated June 1, 2026, the Fifth Division of the Sandiganbayan found probable cause for the issuance of warrants of arrest against the following:
- Senator Jinggoy Estrada
- former DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan
- DPWH NCR Assistant District Engineer Denryl Caesar Sanchez Cortuna
- DPWH NCR District Engineer Manny Bumagat Bulusan
- DPWH NCR District Engineer Arturo Lombres Gonzales Jr.
All of them are now in custody after their arrest and surrender.
After booking procedures, the accused except for Bonoan were transferred to the Sandiganbayan and later detained on Monday. — RSJ, GMA News
