Duterte has already declared her intention to seek higher office, while Robredo said she prefers to remain as Naga City’s chief executive.
Vice President Sara Duterte remains the most preferred candidate for president in 2028, although her predecessor and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo is slowly closing the gap, a recent commissioned survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed.
The May 3 to 7 poll, commissioned by the Stratbase Group, found that 51 percent of the respondents prefer Duterte in a one-on-one hypothetical matchup with Robredo.
Forty-one percent said they would vote for Robredo, while eight percent were either undecided or said they would neither support the two personalities.
Duterte, who is facing an impeachment complaint, has already declared her intent to run for higher office.
Robredo, who lost the 2022 presidential race, said she prefers to remain as Naga’s chief executive.
Based on the survey, Duterte has maintained support in her bailiwick Mindanao with 91 percent.
Robredo, meanwhile, chipped away support from the Vice President in Metro Manila, where she received 46 percent, close to Duterte’s 48 percent.
The Naga City mayor also had majority support in the rest of Luzon with 55 percent (against Duterte’s 33 percent), while the Vice President leads in the Visayas with 50 percent (against Robredo’s 46 percent).
“What this survey also underscores is the importance of building a solid and united opposition,” Stratbase president Dindo Manhit said.
VP race
Stratbase also released the results of its commissioned survey for the vice presidential race.
It showed that Sen. Erwin Tulfo is preferred by more respondents than Sen Robin Padilla, 46 percent against 38 percent.
But Tulfo would trail Sen. Bong Go in a hypothetical matchup for the vice presidency, 42 percent against 47 percent.
The survey had 1,500 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus 2.5 percent.
