soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Max is the best earbuds we’ve reviewed this year so far

The soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Max is clearly positioned as the more feature-packed version of the Liberty 5 Pro, combining premium audio, strong call performance, adaptive noise cancelling, and a smart charging case with AI-powered extras. The attached materials present it as a flagship TWS built not just for music, but also for productivity, with features like AI Note-Taker, translation, a smart screen, and app-based customization wrapped into a PhP12,995 package.

What stands out immediately is that sound quality remains one of its strongest traits. Out of the box, the tuning leans warmer and fuller, which gives music a rich and relaxed character, and that sound can be adjusted further through the soundcore app with HearID 5.0, EQ presets, and other listening tools.

Specs

On paper, the Liberty 5 Pro Max has the features expected from a premium pair of earbuds. It uses a 9.2 mm dynamic driver, supports a 10 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response, runs on Bluetooth 6.1, carries an IP55 rating for the earbuds, and supports LDAC, Dolby Audio, Google Fast Pair, Easy Chat, Find My Earbuds/Case, and multipoint connection for up to three devices.

Battery life is also competitive. The official figures list up to 12 hours on the earbuds and 50 hours total with the case with ANC off, or up to 6.5 hours on the earbuds and 28 hours total with ANC on, while a 5-minute charge is rated to deliver up to 4 hours of playtime. Our experience is almost exactly the same, which says a lot about soundcore’s transparency.

Build

The Liberty 5 Pro Max has a more ambitious hardware design than most premium earbuds because the charging case is part of the experience, not just a battery holder. The case includes a 1.78-inch AMOLED smart screen that lets users access functions such as ambient sound control, wallpaper changes, AI Note-Taker, translation, remote camera, music controls, and device management directly from the case itself.

One of the more enjoyable parts of that design is its customizability. Through the soundcore app, users can upload a custom photo and apply it as the case wallpaper, which gives the Liberty 5 Pro Max a more personal feel and makes the smart case more than just a functional extra.

The earbuds themselves use ear tips and ear fins for a more secure fit, and the package includes five ear tip sizes and three ear wing sizes to help users dial in comfort and seal. Both earbuds also have touch controls on the stems, and these controls can be customized in the soundcore app, which makes the pair much easier to tailor to personal habits.

Sound and Noise Cancelling Quality

Sound quality has always been the best feature of the Liberty 5 Pro Max, and that still feels like the heart of the product. By default, the presentation leans warm, giving tracks a fuller, smoother, and more relaxed sound, but the good thing is that soundcore gives users plenty of ways to fine-tune it through HearID 5.0, app-based EQ presets, and sound settings on the smart case.

That flexibility matters because the app includes presets for different listening styles, including soundcore Signature, Clear Vocals, Powerful Bass, Balanced for Pure Enjoyment, and Calm and Soothing. If you enjoy calming music, the Calm and Soothing preset is already built into the app, making the Liberty 5 Pro Max feel more versatile for laid-back listening as well as more energetic genres.

Noise cancelling is another major win for the Liberty 5 Pro Max. The Thus AI chip powers an 8-mic noise cancellation system that monitors ambient and in-ear sound in real time, and soundcore claims noise reduction performance is doubled versus the previous flagship, while the app also lets users choose Noise Cancellation, Adaptive, Normal, or Transparency and manually adjust ANC from Level 1 to Level 5. In my experience, this is absolutely the product’s core strength… even better than my current lineup of earbuds at the studio.

AI Features

The Liberty 5 Pro Max is built around the Anker Thus AI chip, which soundcore says delivers 150x computing power. That chip is tied not only to calls and noise management, but also to the Max model’s productivity features, especially AI Note-Taker and translation through the smart case and the soundcore app.

AI Note-Taker is one of the more interesting functions because it turns the charging case into a recorder. The case can record audio directly, upload the file to the app, and then generate transcripts and AI meeting notes, which means you can leave your phone in your pocket and let the box capture the meeting even without wearing the earbuds.

Translation is useful too, although it seems less seamless than note-taking. The user guide explains real-time translation and face-to-face translation through the app, with language selection handled inside the app and speech captured through either the earbuds or the phone depending on the mode, so it works best as an assisted tool rather than an invisible magic feature.

Subscription Options

The convenience of these AI tools comes with an important catch: they depend heavily on the app and cloud-based processing. The documents confirm that AI Note-Taker uploads recorded files to the app for transcription and AI-generated meeting notes, and the translation and Anka assistant features also rely on the soundcore app being updated and connected properly.

The AI experience, however, is app-dependent and cloud-reliant, so users should expect the most advanced transcription and summary features to be tied to an online service model rather than entirely on-device processing.

Users are given free Starter pack with 300 minutes of monthly transcription allowance. This is when necessity comes at a premium. If you need more than 300 minutes per month, you always have the option to subscribe.

Pricing and Availability

In the Philippines, the soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Max is priced at PhP12,995. At this price, the Liberty 5 Pro Max is trying to justify its premium by offering more than just good sound. It combines strong battery figures, high-end codec support, adaptive ANC, app customization, and a genuinely unusual smart case that pushes it into productivity territory.

Verdict

The soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Max works best as a premium TWS for users who want excellent sound first and extra smart features second. Its warm default tuning, customizable HearID setup, solid ANC options, customizable touch controls, personalized case wallpaper feature, and unusually capable smart case make it feel more advanced than most earbuds in the same category, even if some AI features are still dependent on the app and cloud services to reach their full potential.

If you want a pair of earbuds that can handle music, calls, meetings, and occasional translation duties in one package, this is a compelling flagship. The Liberty 5 Pro Max does not just try to sound good; it tries to become a pocket productivity tool, and that ambition is what makes it stand out.
