Philippine International Model United Nations 2026 (PHIMUN) returns this June 5–7, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Founded in 2018 by Model United Nations – University of the Philippines Diliman (MUN-UPD), PHIMUN stands as one of the premier Model United Nations (MUN) conferences in the Philippines, where students step into the role of diplomats to debate pressing global issues. Now on its sixth iteration, the conference continues to provide an avenue for the youth to build skills in public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking while engaging with some of today’s most urgent global concerns.
This year’s theme, “Cultivating Diplomatic Resilience: Addressing the Issues of Marginalized Groups and Forgotten Crises in an Era of Deglobalization,” explores a changing global landscape—one where cooperation between nations grows increasingly fragile. As the world shifts from hyper-globalization toward a more fragmented system, PHIMUN 2026 seeks to address a pressing question: what happens to those pushed further into the margins when diplomacy falters and multilateral institutions erode?
Across its committees, the conference highlights often-overlooked issues, from climate displacement and gaps in asylum protection to gender-based violence and underrepresented conflicts. PHIMUN encourages delegates to engage in discussions that will shape the future of international relations while re-centering international efforts on communities marginalized by existing power structures.
This year, PHIMUN features six committees, each tackling a different dimension of the conference theme. These include bodies such as the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which will address the rights of climate-displaced indigenous populations and prospects for technical support in human rights initiatives, and the UN General Assembly Sixth Committee (UNGA-6), which aims to investigate state accountability and solutions to environmental harm caused by high emissions.
Other committees bring equally urgent issues to the table. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) tackles technology-enabled gender-based violence against advocates for women’s rights, alongside the trafficking of women and girls in conflict-prone regions.
For more seasoned delegates, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will focus on global assistance for Haiti’s conflict against gang violence and the safeguarding of civilians and humanitarian access during the conflict in Sudan. Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will discuss significant modern conflicts such as Sudan v. United Arab Emirates and Armenia v. Azerbaijan, offering a legal lens on contemporary disputes.
Lastly, the ASEAN Emergency Council (ASEAN) centers on a scenario involving economic collapse caused by the “Liberation Day Tariffs” of the United States, pushing delegates to address economic instability and geopolitical tensions in Southeast Asia.
Throughout the years, PHIMUN has established itself as a leading platform for youth diplomacy in the Philippines. Past iterations have attracted hundreds of delegates and featured prominent figures from diplomacy and government, reinforcing the conference’s role in promoting informed diplomatic discussions among future world leaders.
Whether new to Model United Nations or already a seasoned delegate, PHIMUN 2026 offers an opportunity to step into the world of diplomacy, challenge perspectives, and take part in conversations shaping the global community.
